Looking through the small sight window at the front bottom left, I saw the igniter glow orange and the blue gas flame come on. After about 1 minute, the flame went out. After another couple of minutes, the cycle would happen again. Sometimes the igniter would not come on at all. I took the front off the dryer and checked continuity on the igniter, flame sensor, and coils that operate the gas valve. All were ok. So I thought one of the safety switches was probably bad. I put the front of the... Read more

Bought new optic control boards, both the emitter and the receiver. The repair process was so simple. The KitchenAid repair tech came out to diagnose our issue. He was only going to come back and install a new emitter. They wanted a lot of money to do the repair. They were going to charge us $257 just for the part (emitter board). We bought both boards for $300 from AppliancePartsPros. We decided to replace both boards, because if one went bad the other might not be far behind. Read more

This Electronic Control Board is the appliance's central control module. It interprets inputs from sensors and switches and directs power to motors, valves, heaters, and fans to run cycles reliably when the original board has failed.
After removing and testing the continuity for the heating element, then the thermostat, I wasn't sure what to check next. I chatted online, and Susan suggested the control board was the most likely problem. I'm only somewhat handy, so I was nervous when the part didn't arrive with instructions. All I needed was a screwdriver to removed the front panel of the dishwasher (and to lift the tabs on the plastic housing of the control board), and it's clearly labelled as to where to plug in each wire... There are 4 things that have to do with the working of the heating element in this dishwasher (assuming everything else is working). 1) The heating element itself, 2) the high-temp. thermal limit switch (sometimes called the thermostat), 3) the wiring from the heating element back to the control unit in the door, and 4) the control unit. I replaced the heating element and that did not fix the drying problem. The high-temp. thermal limit thermostat checked good, with continuity at room... Read more
