Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dryer wasn't heating   Andrew W. • Hagerstown , MD • January 21, 2017

I found the assembly with heater element, thermostat, and the thermal fuse already assembled (cheaper than finding what part was bad and ordering that one part). unplugged dryer, pulled it out and removed the dryer exhaust tube, the top and front. The harness was a little short so I wasnt able to pull the whole heater assembly out before disconnecting. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You 1 no heat on high or low settings and sometimes on medium heat setting 2 no auto cool down   Robert H. • Renton , WA • March 11, 2015

I replaced the cycle switch, fixing the lack of heat. The timer switch replacement fixed the auto cool down. I watched a cycle switch replacement on Youtube, demonstrating removal of the top console, which answered the only question I had about the repair. The timer switch was a hundred bucks. The only thing to be said about that is that it was a lot cheaper than a repairman or replacing the dryer. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The dryer was making a lot of noise like metal against metal thought it might be the bearings in the support wheels   Jane S. • Lynnwood , WA • November 01, 2014

I took the dryer apart.....first had to clean out all the lint here and there. Took the drum out, inspected the belt and back support wheels. They seemed to be fine. In the front the drum turns on two supports that have a Teflon glide. Those two glides had been worn off with their pad so metal was rubbing against metal. Went online to appliancepartspros.com and looked up on the schematic what parts I needed. I also had called around locally and the same parts cost twice as much....so I... Read more

Amana Dryer Gas Valve Assembly

This complete valve system controls gas flow to your dryer's heating element, regulating flame size and heat output. It opens and closes automatically based on temperature settings and safety requirements. Replace if your dryer won't heat, overheats, or you smell gas during operation.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Weak or no burner flame   Michael T. • North Reading , MA • November 16, 2018

Unfortunately my first repair attempt (replacing the Gas Valve Coils) failed so I decided to replace the entire Burner assembly. From a cost/time point of view the Burner assembly is a better value than just buying the Gas Valve seeing as you don't have to disassemble/reassemble most of the existing Burner (to get to the Gas Valve) *and* you get a new Igniter!! The most annoying thing about the repair is accessing the screw that clamps the gas pipe to loosen it :-(... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I needed to convert from lp to natural gas   Mark S. • Raleigh , NC • June 01, 2015

Removed LP Orifice and LP Gas limiter. Orifice was easy, however the gas limiter was the tricky one because I had no instructions to what went where. I could not find anything online as to how to convert from LP to Natural Gas, but you could find several things as to how to convert from Natural to LP. Amana Lid Hinge Bearing
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP21258

The lid hinge bearing is used for the lid hinges on washers and dryers. When functioning properly, it allows the lid to open and close properly. If this is a problem with the bearing, it could make the lid difficult to move. In some cases, when the lid will not close, it means that the machine will not function correctly. Damaged lid hinge bearings should be replaced as soon as possible. The lid hinge bearings see a lot of work since they are in use whenever the lid of the washer or dryer opens and closes. They could become cracked and broken over time. Replacing the bearings is a relatively simple repair that owners can make on their own. This lid hinge bearing is for use with many models of washers and dryers from Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Roper, Estate, Inglis, Maytag, Admiral, Amana, Crosley, and Magic Chef. This is a genuine OEM replacement part that has been sourced from the manufacturer. The piece is sold individually, so if owners need to replace more than one hinge, they will need to buy multiples.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dryer not heating   Ray M. • Marissa , IL • October 03, 2014

I removed the kick panel/door and confirmed there was no flame. Inspection with a flashlight revealed the igniter was damage - partly broken away. Using a 1/4" socket set I removed the burner assembly. Inspection showed the burner was rusted and the flame deflector had fallen off. I ordered both the "Dryer Igniter and Bracket" and a burner. Amana Dryer Thermostat
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP3404154

Dryer not heating or shuts off after a few minutes? A faulty thermostat often causes temperature regulation failure. Easy DIY fix with a multimeter test.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool Thin Twin mod LTE5243DZ2 dryer ran but was not creating heat   David G. • York Springs , PA • July 17, 2019

I checked the continuity on the thermal fuse (which was blown) and knew that it needed to be replaced. This made me question why it blew (i.e. what caused it to fail). I checked continuity on the thermostat (high limit) as well as the thermostat for the element. Both passed a continuity test, so I removed the high limit thermostat to inspect it and could hear it rattling inside. This leads me to believe the spring inside had failed, so I replaced this thermostat as well. Put it back... Read more
