Checked and cleaned vent which was in need of cleaning, but not too bad (I do not consider this a primary causal detail, but can be a problem, so clean yours). Replaced Hi-Limit Thermostat (safety thermostat) after confirming the circuit was open with ohm meter. While I was in there, I completely cleaned the heater and ducting and internal workings of the dryer. The selector knob and timer quit working on our GE dryer. We noticed the plastic selector knob was cracked inside when we pulled it off. We decided to order a new timer along with the selector knob just in case the new knob didn't solve the problem. We put on the new knob as easy as we pulled it off and the dryer would turn on again, however it was not going off in the selected amount of time it was supposed to. Our 19 year old Whirlpool dryer quit heating. After checking the thermal fuse, I found the ignitor electrically open. I bought an ignitor at a local store as there was a national holiday the next day and I did not want the dryer inoperative waiting several days for shipping. Replaced front panel and inner liner of door (kit), trap duct assembly, both bearing slides (gray and white), and drum front support bearing. Procedure is pretty much what one sees in the video clips. Exceptions in our case included: 1. The fact that our door latch¹ was on the front panel while the door strike² was on the door. I replaced the slide bearings a few years back. A few months later the rear bearing started to go so I replaced that one. Bad idea. Replace these two at the same time. The wobbling from the rear bearing failure caused accelerated wear on the slide bearings. Without the money to fix it I ran it as it was. Another bad idea. Was going to order 4 new wheel & spindle sets, then saw you could get just the wheel for 1/3 the cost, so I ordered those. Then in the frequently ordered other items I saw the idler wheel assy. So I ordered one of those also. Glad I did, it was in worse shape than any of the wheels which still seemed to spin freely after I got all the hairs and crap off them.
