I am not an electrician, just a housewife with limited funds and a desire to DIY. I used the provided videos for knowing how to replace everything except the heating element which I just guessed based on other reviews and seeing how the other parts worked. After calling Whirlpool customer support learned that a replacement timer would be $136. The CSR gave me the part number needed. Online I found AppliacePartsPros. I first researched on AppliancePartsPros.com the availability of parts. It looked like all common parts were in stock ready to ship. I also found that APP had several helpful videos to show how to take apart the dryer and replace the parts. I went to the local Home Depot and Lowes, but they did not have the parts because they do not carry parts for the items they actually sell to people. Jumped on the phone and did a quick search for parts and came across appliancepartspros.com. I put in the make and model of my dryer and all the parts for the dryer where listed. I used Fixya as an initial source describing my problem. I got two responses which were very helpful. One that the "coils" were probably the problem. Two, that the problem could be the thermostat or a thermistor in the dryer. I verified that AC was coming from the timing control, that both the two terminal and three terminal coils,the igniter and shut off thermostat all had continuity. I replaced the belt, belt tension pulley, both dryer drum roller axles and both drum support rollers. Although I bought 2 tumbler bearing kits, because those still look good I am saving them for when they go bad. The videos were fantastic! I also took pictures as I went of wiring so there would be no question where things went when reassembling. It should be noted some models have extra terminals near the sensor terminals... just be aware and look closely/take pics as you are taking things... Read more

I was trying to troubleshot a problem I had with my GE dryer not starting. I went to AppliancePartsPros.com because they have excellent DYI videos on how to make repairs. A thumping sound (like sneakers in the dryer) started happening. We stopped using it so that it wouldn't get worse and potentially break more parts. Online research suggested rear drive shaft would be the problem. But also suggested while we have the dryer apart, would be smart to replace the belt and the slides/glides (green and white plastic tabs in front, attached to the door). Maytag Gas Dryer Model: MGDE300VW1 I had previous experience with repairing my dryers, but this was a first for this model. Instructional videos very helpful. Ordered necessary parts and they were delivered with-in two days. Wow! Squeak found to be coming from idler pulley roller which no longer turned freely . Since the dryer was 24 years old I opted to replace all the possible problem components, instead of just the bad one. The parts aren't that expensive and do to their age I figured it was worth it to avoid having to go back into the dryer in a few months.
