I purchased a freezer gasket + key// from appliancepartspros.com //easy to order. I did not need to lock up my freezer but thought it might help the gasket seat (good thought). To replace gasket I started at top of door, wow, I should have started at bottom. Hated laying on my "belly" to screw in gasket. Ok, I am 77 years old but got the job done. This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more

Walk into the kitchen on 21 Sep. Eight year old Frigidaire refrigerator appears to be short cycling, controls are nonfunctional. Unplug it for a few minutes, plug it back in, appears to return to normal function. Return to kitchen half hour 45 minutes later it's short cycling again. Got the infamous icemaker freezing up problem so common to Frigidaire Gallery and Professional series refrigerators. I was also only getting the "OP" code on the diagnostic test 26, so I determined the defrost heater and/or the thermostat was probably bad. With his help I had my order straightened out and he also was able to get the belt I needed to me the next day, which I did not think would be here so quick. I determined that it was a problem that occurred during the defrost cycle by resetting the GFCI outlet and forwarding the defrost timer until the defroster came on. Once the defrosting began, the GFCI outlet would reliably trip. I took apart the shielding inside of the freezer and tested the defrosting without the heating element or the thermostat connected.
