Maytag Dishwasher Pump

We initially noticed the dishwasher running loud and failing to completely clean dishes. Research suggested issues like this were normally caused by either the main circulation motor or the drain motor. Over the next week the noise worsened, and it became obvious that the circulation motor had went (loud whirring noise whenever the spin cycle kicked in). DIY, changed motor and sump. Put a dab of valve lubricant on seal. Wet outer seal of sump to get it to seat in bottom of tub. Cleaned electrical connectors corroded by leak. Coated connectors with dielectric grease. Had to buy additional clamp. Two clamps came in the sump package but both fit the smaller hose only. Neither fit the large hose. I wish the correct clamps were included. Home improvement store clamp is a little too wide to fit between ridges in large hose. Read more

I reviewed the schematic and saw the Volute Seal, and Impeller Seal were the two that were closest my source of water. After watching the video about changing the Impeller/seal I removed the motor, impeller, and volute; I found that the impeller seal was the faulty one in my case. Motor shaft was stripped, replaced with new shaft from Motor Seal Kit. Impeller was also cracked, so replaced it as well. I did run in to a small problem, the chopper blade was pressing against the metal grate on the piece that goes back over the motor seal. I spent about an hour messing with it, but thought maybe once it's all together it'll be fine. When you screw the impeller on, it pushes down the seals, which pushes down the chopper blade. I noticed the floor around the dishwasher was starting to get wet and warp the wooden floor. The chopper had gotten out of line and had cut a pinhole into the sump housing and the dishwasher was leaking badly. It was quite easy to repair. Just unhook the drain hose and the wire connectors, twist off the turbidity sensor and waste motor, pull out the shims and the whole assemple comes up and out. Checked the grinder/pump well at the bottom of the dishwasher and fished out some aluminum foil, wire twist ties, broken plastic forks, etc. That was fun but it didn't solve the problem. Purchased new pump & motor assembly and installed it as per Youtube video. It requires pulling out the dishwasher, disconnecting electric, hotwater, and drain lines, and then removing a bunch of clips and connectors. Ordered the replacement pump seal kit from AppliancePartsPros. I watched the online how-to video on their website. The impeller was slightly stuck on the motor shaft due to age but overall was amazed at how easy it was to repair. Thanks AplianePartsPros! Read more

I watched the appliancepartspros.com video to make sure I had identified the right part before I ordered it. After receiving the part, it was easy — the part itself twisted off without tools (pliers were helpful to remove and reattach the drain hose), and I was able to complete the repair without pulling the dishwasher out from under the counter. Removed the 4 Torx (T-20) screws to remove the bottom tray, loosened the 2 steel adjustable hose clamps and disconnected the hoses from the old pump. Removed the 2 Torx screws from the drain pump mounting bracket and the 2 that mount the pump to the bracket. Discarded the old pump, reversed the above process for installating the new pump and the dishwasher is functioning normally again. All in well under 30 mins. Read more

The initial problem was just a simple blockage on the filter screen...until I dropped a screw. So, I had to take the rest of the insides apart to retrieve it. The original impeller would not come off easily, so I tried to pry it off. Naturally, that caused the threaded portion to break. The new impeller went on much more easily than the old one came off, and the dishwasher is back in action. Simple repair; there's really not much to the inside of this thing. Read more

Found dryer portion I let plastic had failed to keep seal. Ordered new blower assembly and inlet cap. Gasket comes with blower. Read more

Figured it was either the capacitor and/or motor. Ordered both parts to be sure. tried changing the capacitor first; same problem. Replaced the motor (leaving the new capacitor in place). Unit now works fine. Overall an easy fix once you get the washer out and tip it on its side or top to get access to the motor area. Read more
