Diagnosed by local appliance shop as element. Didn't sound correct due to manner of failure. Also they were charging three times Whirlpool list for the part. Continuity checked element with ohm meter - ok. Replaced switch. Problem solved. It was difficult finding the correct size metric replacement disc for a Miele "combiSet" cooktop. I only found this Bosch unit with 4 wires, whereas the burned-out part had 2 wires. Using an ohmmeter, I discovered that the 4-wire Bosch unit had two elements inside, one on terminals 1 and 2, and the other on terminals 3 and 4.
