I used the web site to figure out the most likely causes for the drum not turning. I watched the web site's videos to see what I would have to do and thought it wasn't too bad; something a rookie could do. Ordered the parts (belt and idler arm) and followed the directions from the videos. Mostly a bunch of screws/bolts to remove with a couple in difficult places. When starting my dryer the motor would power up and rotoe the drum and blower. Afetr about 20-30 seconds the igniter would come on then the gas valve would open and I would get heat for about 6 or 7 seconds then it would shut off. I know the burner is suppoed to cycle on and off but once the burner shut off it would not come bqack on unless I shut the dryer off and then back on. I searched the internet and found the conversion kit to LP gas at Appliancepartspros.com. their price was the least expensive. The instructions were excellent in describing the removal of the nat. gas orifice and replacement with LP orifice. The part was delivered 3 days after ordered by Fed Ex., a speedy delivery! I finished installing my clothes dryer and it works fine. I have some experience with such equipment but recommend professional installation for reasons of safety! Thank you, R.P. Read more

I actually found a post from another brave soul who was willing to try to fix his, and had stated when he put the new limiter switch in, it fixed the problem. Since the whole back of the dryer needs to come off to get to the burner, and the limiter switch is inexpensive it seemed like common sense to take this approach first. After having replaced the drum support rollers twice in a roughly 3yr period, I realized something wasn't quite right, and indeed it wasn't. I had been ordering the wrong parts - I did use the online parts locator after checking, & double checking my model number. Apparently my older Whirlpool dryer has a somewhat ambiguous model number because the rollers that were shipped each time looked nothing like the originals. Googled what would cause that. Found or needed a new timer. Searched for the best priced timer online. Found one here for a good price. Replaced it myself very easy replacement and saved at least 100 dollars doing it myself. Read more

Through 15 years of vibration, the Cycling Thermostat evidently had degraded to the point where one electrical connection or more came loose and caused a short. There is also a possibility that the Bakelite section of the Dryer Cycling Thermostat body separated from the metal base, simultaneously exposing all four connections to a short.
