Dryer not heating or overheating? The high limit thermostat shuts off heat at unsafe temperatures. Moderate difficulty repair requiring partial disassembly.
Checked and cleaned vent which was in need of cleaning, but not too bad (I do not consider this a primary causal detail, but can be a problem, so clean yours). Replaced Hi-Limit Thermostat (safety thermostat) after confirming the circuit was open with ohm meter. While I was in there, I completely cleaned the heater and ducting and internal workings of the dryer. Confirmed the heater coils were good via 20ohm, 20ohm, 40ohm readings (LG service manual has wrong readings). Two weeks later, same... Read more
Dryer not drying or making loud noise? The blower housing assembly circulates hot air through the drum. Most DIYers complete this repair in under an hour.
The very easy diagnosis was motor seizure. Because the machine is about a decade old, I decided to renovate most of the guts. My DIY project included replacing the motor, blower, drum bearing, belt, and door hinge. The end result is a functional dryer with no left-over parts. Lack of parts and hardware challenged the effort. For example, the blower assembly did not have the slide capture for the motor. I had to use the old one which is showing its age. With the exception of the drum... Read more
Dryer won't heat or stops heating after 10-15 minutes? Gas valve coils control burner ignition. Simple 5-10 minute repair with video guide included.
Being a complete DIY I hate to call some unknown person into my home knowing that just to get them there will cost me more than I will spend for parts that I don't need. After all, they are trying to make a living and by selling me parts that I don't need will increase their profits. I've dealt with APP before and was impressed by their site because I could find both mechanical and electrical drawings for almost everything I have. I looked up my dryer, decided what was probably the problem,... Read more
The Hi Limit Thermostat Assembly is an OEM part for LG dryers. This thermostat monitors and regulates the temperature within the dryer to prevent overheating, ensuring safe and efficient operation. It acts as a safety device that shuts off the heating element if the dryer exceeds a certain temperature, protecting the appliance and your home from potential fire hazards.
Over time, the hi limit thermostat can fail due to wear and tear, electrical issues, or repeated exposure to high temperatures. If the thermostat becomes faulty, it can lead to improper temperature regulation within the dryer.
Symptoms of a bad hi limit thermostat include:
This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.
The Interlock Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE electric and gas dryers. This safety component monitors the door closure, preventing operation if the door is not securely closed and latched. The switch measures 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.
Symptoms of a faulty interlock switch include:
Causes relate to the internal component contacting the door frame over 50,000 open/close cycles potentially exposing wiring to wear. Regular cleaning the external switch area prevents dust or lint buildup skewing performance.
This genuine GE switch is compatible with Hotpoint and RCA dryers as well.
Note: Can be used as a dishwasher door switch on specific models. Check your model number for the most accurate results.
The full story: Dishwasher stopped running mid-cycle. When I first began troubleshooting I tried manually advancing the timer knob, and the machine would run. That led me to believe that the actual timer assembly was bad, so I replaced it. The dishwasher ran fine for a day, and then the same problem came back. This time, however, I also had to push in on the door to get it to run. I looked around online, and someone suggested that the door latch wasn't closing tightly enough. I adjusted the... Read more
Dryer not heating or clothes staying damp? This heating element restores proper drying. Moderate DIY repair—requires disassembly and multimeter testing.
The dryer is a Kenmore Laundry Center, model 417-99570150. Bought in 1998, so it is an older model. Not wanting to buy the newer ones that are out now. We opted to fix the Kenmore. Just believe the older models are worth fixing, if at all possible. Frist we had to figure out what parts we would need and if the cost would be worth our time. I went on YouTube: and type in Kenmore dryer not turning on. Watched several videos to narrow down the possible problem. Next step was to... Read more
Dryer won't start when you press the button? This rotary start switch activates your dryer cycle. Simple DIY fix in minutes with basic tools.
Looked at the diagnostic help on Appliance Parts Pros.com and the start switch was the problem, but only 25% of the time, so I was a little concerned it may be a different problem. The switch was reasonably priced, so I ordered it and it arrived in two days! It was very easy to follow the repair video, however, my GE Gas dryer had a lot of screws rather than 2 screws and tabs on the model in the video, so it took a little more time to open up. After turning off the gas and unplugging the... Read more
Dryer won't start or stops mid-cycle? A broken door catch prevents secure closure, triggering safety shutoffs. Simple snap-in replacement, 1 minute.
Replace your dryer drum seal when clothes take longer to dry or you notice lint buildup. Maintains heat efficiency and prevents air leaks. Confirm fit with your model number.
From reading "troubleshooting" sites on the internet, originally thought I'd be replacing the front & rear drum rollers, so I ordered the rollers, and a new belt before I opened up the dryer, taking it out of use. When I opened it up the front rollers were "shot", and the front bulkhead was "totaled". Waited for parts to arrive (within 2 days), and successfully replaced front & rear rollers, bulkhead, drum seal. The on-line videos really helped me ensure I was keeping in the right order. My... Background: Roper Electric Dryer model REX6634RQ0 purchased new in early 2006 by my wife. Dryer use profile is low to moderate as it was used by only one person (working from home) from 2006 to late 2007 then moved and stored in a dry basement until mid 2009. Moved and used by primarily just two people (plus occasional children visits) from mid-2009 thru late 2011 with three moves involved with in that time. Then stored in a dry shipping container until moved again in 2013. The multiple... Read more

Dryer won't start, makes grinding noise, or drum won't spin? The drive motor powers the drum and blower. Moderately difficult repair, about 1 hour.
Checked thermal fuse, belt pulley switch, door switch, and motor windings (primary 2.3 ohms start 2,2 ohms). Called Appliance Pros, told them my problem. They said that it appears to be the motor even though the ohm readings seam Ok and that I could return the motor if it was not the problem. I ordred the motor and blower wheel. Installed the new motor and everything worked! The only difficult part was that the motor blower had to be chiseled out. Their motor repair video was a great help. Read more
