Symptoms of a bad magnetron include:

  • The microwave not heating food
  • Unusual buzzing or humming noises
  • Burning smell during operation
  • The microwave shutting off abruptly or not starting

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge monogram zmc1095sf02 microwave   Christopher L. • Saint Charles , IL • December 15, 2014

Wife let me know the microwave was making grinding noise while I was in garage fixing her car starter, never a dull moment. Further questioning she also said it wan't heating the food. Due to being an odd sized built in $$ unit I had to have repaired. I was getting quotes in the $4-500 range for just the magnetron. I was pretty confident the magnetron was the issue and also ordered a new capacitor and diode since I was going to be in there and a lot of money ahead repairing myself. About... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Microwave oven was not heating   Scott S. • Charlotte , NC • June 20, 2017

I ordered the capacitor, diode, and magnetron in hopes that I would be able to complete the repair using the less expensive parts. I first removed the oven from the wall and then I removed the metal housing to access the internal parts. I discharged the capacitor using a pair of insulated needle nose pliers. Then I changed out the diode and the capacitor and reassembled the unit and tested it. It still did not heat so I disassembled the unit again and replaced the magnetron this time.... Read more

Ge Magnetron
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB27X10585

This is a magnetron that is used on microwave ovens. The purpose of the magnetron is to provide the microwaves that actually cook the foot inside of the microwave oven. Use caution when replacing this part. High-voltage capacitors in microwaves can retain a deadly amount of electrical charge, even when they are unplugged. If the microwave begins making a buzzing noise and doesn't heat food properly, this part will need to be replaced. Use extreme caution when working with this appliance. Unplug the unit first. This particular magnetron is compatible with microwave ovens that are manufactured by the General Electric, Hotpoint, and Maytag brands. This part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer as a genuine OEM part.

Contacted a AppliancepartsPros tech. Told him what was wrong with my GE Microwave with range hood which is 24 years old. After trying to cook popcorn it made a buzzing noise and didn't heat food. He told me it was the magnetron. I ordered it. Received it approximately 3 days later. I installed it and it was back in perfect working order. I am happy. Saves me from purchasing a new microwave for over the stove which would be very expensive. Thank you AppliancePartsPros. Mike. Read more
