General Electric Valve

I seared the web and found Appliance Parts Pros site and when I input my GE refrigerator model number I was able to do some diagnostics on their site. It was indicated from my research that the Water Inlet valve most likely was at fault for my problems. My refrigerator is 13 yrs old and began to build up frost in the ice cube shoot and the water tube began to freeze up over night. The flapper door was not closing completely. I simply removed the control panel by pulling up and out on the bottom edge, the edge is only about 1/8 inch thick, so don't reach in to far. To verify if you have a bad valve in the first place read on... I first pulled out the ice maker to remove all the frozen water including the inlet section which was a huge solid waterfall of ice. While it was out completely disconnected I cleaned/chipped out the freezer section ice puddle. I also completely melted the ice cubes and ice puddles off the ice maker at the fill bucket end in the sink with running water careful to not get water near the power cord area. I replaced the water inlet valve. The toughest part was closing off the feed line while I waited for the valve to be delivered. The needle valve used to install the feed line wouldn't close completely. I ended up fabricating a plug from some parts from the hardware store. The mounting bracket on the new valve was completely different from the original, but it still mounted easily enough. It is very simple to fix. All the blogs recommend replacement of this part but do not explain why. This is a normally open check valve that permits the water from inside the dishwasher to drain out, either once it gets too high or just general splash. When the machine drains the pump comes on and the check valve closes. If the check valve is damaged or worn (like mine was) some of the water can pump back into the machine. Ordered water inlet valve. Two screws to take out. Disconnect the hose. Disconnect the two wires. Put in the new valve. Reverse the procedure. Whole thing took about 10 minutes. Read more

1.) Located where the water leak was coming from in the refrigerator. 2.) Unplugged the refrigerator. 3.) Shut off the water supply to the refrigerator. 4.) Unscrewed the back cardboard panel. 5.) I reseached these error codes and compared them to others problems. After deciding that I was gonna order the part and fix it myself I was at ease to find out it took 10min to fix! And it actually worked! The washer was pausing during cycles, cloths were soaking wet, spin cycle only worked on drain and spin at the end of the Ioad (it would spin slowly otherwise), soap dispenser still had the soap in it or it would be filled with water after the cycle was over. I took the inlet valve apart, found it was clogged with sediment, so I cleaned it and reinstalled it. Water was still not filing, so I figured the valve was sticking. I ordered a new valve,because $30 was a lot cheaper than a new dishwasher. I took out the old valve with two screws, and disconnected the supply line, the brass elbow, one hose, and a wiring harness. This was a two and half year issue as different things failed at different times. I would get one part, then another would fail. Ultimately, I got to a point where what failed, I hadn't been ordered the part yet. The seal on the freezer door took three bathing's before it plumped up and un-creased. Replaced solenoid valve. Repair summary: Turn off H/C water supply, disconnect hoses. Unscrew 3 screws rear of main panel. Slide front panel laterally then pull up to remove. Unscrew 2 screws on solenoid valve part. Disconnect spade electrical connectors and remove defective part. Insert new part and do everything I just said in reverse.
