Normally I would do a better job of investigating my problem with what others have experienced and then proceed with the cheapest fix first. This time though I just knew it was the timer. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You E53 error code   Susan R. • Beverly Hills , FL • March 03, 2017

After taking the top off the washer I found the Tech Data Sheet ( for repair person ) The E53 code was listed as Low Voltage to the motor board and referred me to test #15. Which stated to check the "drum water NTC" ( Negative Temperature Coefficient or Thermistor). What was misleading was that there are 2 NTC's. If your washer has a "Sanitize" feature , then there is a drum water NTC as well as one on the fill valve body. IF you have the sanitize feature then you need to replace the drum water... Read more

Kenmore Timer (Angled Sequence)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPW10175553

This mechanical cycle timer controls the sequence and duration of washer operations. Replacing a failing timer restores proper advancement through fill, agitate, drain, and spin so cycles complete reliably with accurate timing. What it does:

  • Sets the length of each stage for consistent operation
  • Common failure signs: cycle won't advance or stops mid-cycle
  • Timer knob doesn't move or must be jiggled to run
  • Skips functions (no agitate, drain, or spin) while others still work
What's included:
  • 1 mechanical timer assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; access the timer from the control console
  • Take photos or label wires; transfer them to the new timer one at a time to maintain correct positions
