This was the motor control board (also called the speed control board, motor control unit, or MCU in various places across the web). The repair was straightforward, except for two complications. First the old part was difficult to access in this model washer (Frigidaire Gallery Series front load washer). Replaced pump. All components are accessible from the front of the machine. You have to remove two screws in the back that hold on the top cover, then slide the cover back. This will allow access to the screws that hold on the control panel. After troubleshooting the problem I checked online for similar issues and how they were resolved. I discovered the video on YouTube for replacing the wash tub boot. Although the video was for a Whirlpool washer it turned out to be spot on for my Kenmore Elite. The breakdown and removal of the torn boot was bolt for bolt perfect. My Mom's Kenmore had a burnt plastic smell after a thunderstorm. Found motor capacitor had melted through, dumping liquid platic "spaghetti" onto the insulation blanket under the washer. When I looked up LG washer E6 code on the web I saw the tip from LG: unplug the washer and call for service. To me that's a challenge. The hot inlet valve was dripping water, replaced it. Water and soap were coming out of the vent pipe. The new Float assembly had a shorter shaft than the old Float Assembly I was replacing. I did install the new Float Assembly and cleaned the vent hose where the float seats and I haven't seen any more water on the floor. Both repairs were made easy by watching your repair videos. There was a horrible screeching noise coming from the washer, and upon inspection I found that the retaining nut that attaches the cam to the machine was either improperly tightened to begin with or had worked itself loose causing the cam to wobble and the belt to work down the cam.
