Our Whirlpool Duet Sport Dryer, 6.7 cu. ft, Model WED8300SW0, bought new 8 years ago (2006), developed a VERY loud squeaking noise inside the dryer. Removing the top panel did not isolate the problem. Unpluged dryer first. Then took the lint filter out and removed the two philips screws inside the lint filter lid. Then take a paint scraper just under the top of the dryer two inches from the left front corner and pushed in a little to release the snap connector and did the same on the right side. Then lifted top over. Then take a 5/16 socket or nut driver and remove the two screws on on the left inside panel, then the right side. This was my first attempt, ever, to repair a washing machine. After some internet research on the problems, I was able to determine that the shaft seal on the gearcase probably was leaking water into the gearcase with each use. No water was ever found on the floor, but when I turned the washer over to inspect the gearcase, I found a black, oily residue on the outside of it along with the same residue on the pulleys, the belt and the motor. I watched your initial video which gave me some insight into the repair. I removed power from the dryer and positioned it for maintenance. Since my dryer was a Maytag, I needed to remove to two front bottom Phillips screws from the front panel of the dryer prior to pulling the panel and door assy. from the unit. I replaced the belt, belt tension pulley, both dryer drum roller axles and both drum support rollers. Although I bought 2 tumbler bearing kits, because those still look good I am saving them for when they go bad. The videos were fantastic! I also took pictures as I went of wiring so there would be no question where things went when reassembling. I went to the local Home Depot and Lowes, but they did not have the parts because they do not carry parts for the items they actually sell to people. The washer was on, and I heard a faint humming sound in the laundry room. I went in and opened the washer and it was full of soapy water in the middle of its cycle and was not agitating. I Purchased a new belt and replaced it. If I had not watched the video telling me how it is done the job would have been much more difficult. After watching the video I changed the belt in less than 2 minutes. I ordered the belt from Appliance Parts Pros and got it the next day. Replaced the Gearcase assembly which is a sealed unit that is not serviceable. Also replaced the clutch and belt because they were covered in gearcase oil. Read more

18 year old Maytag Atlantis top load washer had a load knocking and rattle sound with excessive vibration when the tub was spinning, but not when it was agitating. They was no water leaking. I pulled the unit away from the wall and noticed black dust on the floor. Unplugged the unit, turned off the water. Removed back panel (about 10 screws with Torx heads) and noticed the belt was off, the drive pulley was loose and wobbling on the shaft, black dust all over the inside. Belt was worn along one side. Some grooves/damage in the outer drum casing around the pulley where it appeared the belt had rubbed. Removed the lower crossbar (2 more screws) to get better access to the drive... Read more
