Given that I had 14 house guests for a week, I tried calling a Maytag repair man to expedite the fix - unfortunately, he didn't have the part, but did identify the problem as a bad control panel. I ordered the part (#W10235721) from Appliance Part Pros (which was quick and easy) and received the right part the first time and very quickly. I replaced the control panel. I guess the problem could also have been the control board. I felt more certain about purchasing the control panel after removing the old one, and ohm-ing out pins that should have indicated small resistance when pressing front panel buttons, but all indicated open circuit. Ordered a new control panel and installed it; The repair is super easy and it would not take more than 10 minutes were I to do it again but because I had never done anything like this before I got stuck at one point and it took me a lot longer. I could not figure out how to get the electrical box off the old control panel - it was just a matter of bending the middle part of the plastic clips but I had not seen that kind of clip before and it was not immediately evident. Removed 6 screws, pried off the board/cable protector, then removed the lock and logic board off the old control panel. The tricky part is removing the ribbon cable and not bending the prongs on the logic board. Reversed the steps to install the new control panel purchased from you guys,.
