After a few days of our 16 YO Frigidaire Affinity front-loading washer (model ATF7000EG0) dancing around the room bellowing like an elephant in musth, I decided to fix it. Replaced all bearings, seals, springs, dampers and gaskets. After disassembly I was cleaning the gunk off the spider arm. I was seeing what looked like small stones in the clean out trap. Turns out it was small pieces of metal. Spider arm was being eaten and had holes in it so replaced that too. Bolts holding spider arm to the drum are secured with orange lock tight. I believe the shock absorbers were bad and caused too much stress on the spring, breaking it. I replaced the spring, spring protector, and shock absorbers. I got lucky; when I got the drum back up where it belonged I saw that the door boot seal straightened itself back out and wasn’t damaged so I didn’t have to replace it. The whole job took about three hours and the washing machine runs more smoothly now than it did when it was new! Read more
