Dryer Parts

We cleaned out all ducts carefully and did other basic troubleshooting but it did not help. Began to research the problem on-line and discovered that this dryer has two heating elements. One can fail while the other continues to provide heat - but with a large impact on drying time. Watched youtube videos and how to take apart the dryer to reach the heating coils. Tested the heating elements for continuity with tester and the outer loop had no continuity indicating it was broken somewhere. ... Read more

Removed two sheet metal screws and lower front panel, removed two sheet metal screws and door panel (disconnected three door switch wires and two light wires - noted the connected position of each wire ); removed three self-tapping screws and black plastic hot air outlet to fan duct from lower end of front bulkhead; removed sheet metal screws and front bulkhead; removed two sheet metal screws from dryer top panel and raised top up and back on rear hinge brackets;... From watching the video I got the general idea, disassemble 50% of the dryer. Only had 2 differences in my dryer from the one used in the video, so the video was helpful. The one difference was the connections to the front side of the dryer were on the power distribution circuit board located on the left of the dryer under a sheet metal cover. After having replaced the drum support rollers twice in a roughly 3yr period, I realized something wasn't quite right, and indeed it wasn't. I had been ordering the wrong parts - I did use the online parts locator after checking, & double checking my model number. This Maytag dryer was bought in 1985 if memory serves. It has worked hard with few repairs done by yours truly over the years. Thanks to the engineering and excellent design by Maytag staff, removing parts are relatively easy. Once I opened the unit, I found it to be full of lint. I replaced the motor and all other moving components along with the felt drum seals.drum glides and drive belt. The wiring instruction is where i had the most problems. Because my wiring had only 4 wires in the harness not 5, and one was a different color then the instructions call out, I believe was because it might have been and older model. the instruction called for a gray wire but mine was white with a blue piggy back wire attached. but after finding a few videos on line i figured that the... Replaced control board. Did not need Control Thermistor in my case, but I'm keeping it as backup. Got the Drum Belt just in case it breaks on me since the dryer is aging. To replace control board: Disconnect power and pull dryer away from wall. Take 2 black screws on the back off to remove the top lid. Remove 2 screws on top that hold the control interface on. Started my Maytag dryer (model LDE8200ACW) with a large load early Saturday morning and immediately heard a noticeable thumping noise as the drum turned. Opened the door and checked to make sure some of the laundry hadn’t wadded up and was causing the thumping. Restarted it but the thumping was still present. The start button broke?!? I ordered another start button and it looked exactly like the one I had. I figured it would break as well, so I might as well try to fix the broken one. I unplugged the power, removed the back of the dryer console, disconnected the start switch from the button and the dryer, depressed the 3 pop out tabs to remove the button from the dryer. I research it online and found that my timer knob skirt was cracked, watched the video online to see how to fix it, ordered the part………it came within 2.5 days.
