I replaced the heating element supplied by AppliancePartsPros.com. It took me longer than the estimated 30 minutes to an hour cited in the good instructional video. A few things took more time than I had expected: 1. Removing the top of the dryer unit resulted in my breaking off the three plastic tabs that is used to anchor the top to the structure below. I checked out a few youtube videos on trouble shooting a gas dryer that would not heat, like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8j6fQM3P34. Eliminated all the sensors as possible problems, leaving only the coils or more advanced problems. Took the chance it was one of the coils. I ordered both, replaced them both, put the dryer back together and fortunately that was the problem and it lit up and is running as good as new. Read more

My GE dryer from the late 80's/early 90's was squealing when it would start up, belt or bearing I was thinking. I found a manual online that covered my model and I watched a video on this site that showed me how to take it all apart, mine was a bit different but the principles were the same. I had to pop the lid up from the front with a screw driver, and behind the element was a metal piece, a heat shield, that had two screws that had to be removed from the back. The little part with the blue round tag (part of the kit that came with the element) was easily removed with one screw. After watching the how to video twice I decided to embark on dismantling my dryer and attempting to replace my motor. After realizing that the main tool needed was a Phillips screwdriver I was sure I could handle this repair. One by one I took apart the dryer and spread out the parts throughout my mud room. 1.5 hrs later and I have a working dryer, and most of all a happy wife.
