Unfortunately my first repair attempt (replacing the Gas Valve Coils) failed so I decided to replace the entire Burner assembly. From a cost/time point of view the Burner assembly is a better value than just buying the Gas Valve seeing as you don't have to disassemble/reassemble most of the existing Burner (to get to the Gas Valve) *and* you get a new Igniter!! Removing cabinet panels to access burner was the major challenge since every one seems to be different. This one, two screws at back allowed top to raise and be removed, Two more screws at front and two cables disconnected removed control panel. The door panel was not quite as obvious, The two screws at top sides and two at very bottom edge were removed. Then by trial, I removed screws around door edge until panel was loose. My GE dryer from the late 80's/early 90's was squealing when it would start up, belt or bearing I was thinking. I found a manual online that covered my model and I watched a video on this site that showed me how to take it all apart, mine was a bit different but the principles were the same. I took it apart and added some quick-disconnects to 2 wires so next time I can take the front panel off easily. The very easy diagnosis was motor seizure. Because the machine is about a decade old, I decided to renovate most of the guts. My DIY project included replacing the motor, blower, drum bearing, belt, and door hinge. The end result is a functional dryer with no left-over parts. I checked the continuity on the thermal fuse (which was blown) and knew that it needed to be replaced. This made me question why it blew (i.e. what caused it to fail). I checked continuity on the thermostat (high limit) as well as the thermostat for the element. Both passed a continuity test, so I removed the high limit thermostat to inspect it and could hear it rattling inside. We opened the dryer up with help from the videos on your site, and came to the conclusion that the rear drum-support rollers needed to be replaced. We thought the front bearing and seal looked a little past-it as well, so we ordered that and a new bearing ring to go with it, and a new dryer belt (just so we wouldn't have to get back into it again any time soon). I removed the kick panel/door and confirmed there was no flame. Inspection with a flashlight revealed the igniter was damage - partly broken away. Using a 1/4" socket set I removed the burner assembly. Inspection showed the burner was rusted and the flame deflector had fallen off. I ordered both the "Dryer Igniter and Bracket" and a burner.
