Maytag Washer Agitator Cam Repair Kit
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8537434

This cam assembly kit includes the components that allow the agitator's upper portion to ratchet in one direction during the wash cycle. The cams engage and release to create the back-and-forth agitation motion that cleans clothes. Replace this kit if the agitator spins freely in both directions without gripping, makes clicking or grinding noises, or no longer agitates clothes effectively.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Top agitator would not spin   Daniel C. • Woodbine , MD • January 14, 2017

I have a 25 year old Kenmore washer that works well and didn't want to get a new washer as they don't make them like they used to. Upon removing the top cap of the agitator and doing an inspection, the agitator dogs were completely broken into pieces. Due to age we decided to replace the lower and upper agitator along with the agitator auger dogs repair kit. All new parts and works fine. On inspection of old parts, we probably could have gotten away with just a $5 repair for the plastic... Read more

Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool

Agitator won't move or slips during wash? A worn drive shaft causes weak agitation. This shaft transfers motion from the gearcase to restore firm engagement.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Agitator was not turning   Edward M. • Glen Allen , VA • March 10, 2019

I had to replace the drive shaft and the lower agitator. The motor coupling was also worn out. The repair was challenging because I had to rebuild the gear box. This step was really messy and I had to wait for the liquid gasket to set prior to completing the repair. Cleaning and prep of all of the parts tripled the repair time. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You F71 error code and no spin cycle   Larry R. • Oxnard , CA • November 05, 2016

Replaced basket hub assembly under agitator. Agitator would not come off so I had to cut slots in agitator with a dremel tool and use a faucet knob puller tool to pull it up off the shaft. As a result I had to replace the agitator as well. Once I got the agitator off replacing the basket hub was fairly straight forward. I also used the puller to remove the basket hub gear. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The agitator wasn't spinning   Gerald B. • Anaheim Hills , CA • December 22, 2018

The bolt that holds the agitator and the agitator cam was rusted in place so it made the project way more difficult than it should have been. Had to cut the agitator off the shaft and cut the head of the frozen bolt off. Thankfully, Appliance Pros had all three parts I needed. Once the parts arrived it only took ten minutes to fix. Since the house was going to be full for Christmas, the fast shipping really, really helped. Was able to get it done before the guests arrived. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool thin twin dual agitator was not working (model ltg6234dq1)   Matthew S. • Los Angeles , CA • June 15, 2017

The splines inside the bottom agitator that are supposed to fit snug with the agitator shaft were worn down and couldn't catch the shaft anymore. I removed the entire agitator then pulled the top agitator part off of the lower agitator part. I then replaced the lower agitator with the new one I purchased and kept the old top agitator part (the top part was still in good condition and didn't need replacing, although I did replace the "agitator dogs" because they're very cheap and figured it...
