Fix ice buildup and cooling issues with a new defrost thermostat. This bi-metal switch monitors evaporator temperature to prevent frost accumulation.
Unplugged freezer, left door open to defrost, after one day was able to remove back panel, coils still iced up. Left door open another 24hrs to allow the coils and wiring to clear of ice. Then located the defrost thermostat, unplugged and removed. I took the bottom tray out of the freezer and found the coils iced up severely. I was reasonably sure the defrost timer was the problem and your tech said that was a good possibility.
