- Helps clear ice/frost that can restrict airflow or block passages
- Can resolve performance issues tied to insufficient heat or a failed heater circuit
- Typical signs include persistent frost/ice, moisture/condensation problems, or error codes related to the heater
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing; turn off water supply if working near ice maker or dispenser components
- Access and routing vary by model—photograph wiring and harness path before removal
- Handle the element and wiring carefully; avoid contact with sharp fins and plastic liners
- Ensure secure electrical connections and proper routing; do not allow the heater to rest against plastic surfaces

Genuine Ge part

Part Number: WR51X322
This is a GE refrigerator defrost heater assembly. The defrost heater assembly is the component responsible for defrosting the freezer compartment. If the refrigerator has been having trouble defrosting or making loud noises when the defrost heater turns on, this part could need a replacement. When this part malfunctions there could be a noticeable increase in ice building up in the freezer compartment. This situation should be fixed quickly because the increasing ice could damage other parts. Start any repairs by unplugging the refrigerator first. Take all the shelves out of the freezer and remove the freezer light shield. Unthread the two screws securing the rear freezer panel inside of the freezer. Detach the clip and remove the panel. The defrost heater should be accessible at this point. This part is located near the bottom of the freezer. Unthread the screws holding it in place and disconnect it from its wiring. Repeat these steps in reverse to install the new appliance. This is a genuine OEM replacement product sourced directly from GE. This heater assembly is only available individually and is not included with other parts.

The freezer section of an amana bci20tw was not getting cold enough and the back panel in the freezer was covered in ice Jeff H. • Gettysburg , PA • January 27, 2025
After doing some research, I guessed it was either a faulty defrost timer, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, or some combination of those. Using part location diagrams for my Amana BC120TW I started by looking for the evaporator coils since they obviously weren't producing enough cold. Upon removing the evaporator coil cover, I found the evaporator coils frozen into 1 solid block of ice. Using a heat gun, I carefully defrosted the coils so I could access the defrost thermostat and heater...
