Dishwasher Spray Arm & Related

This is a 12 year old Kenmore, but my experience applies to many dishwashers. The machine had run for almost a year without being cleaned. I found parts had failed from age and water passages were jammed with hard-water deposits and pieces of food, labels, etc. that had gotten past the filters. I replaced both items. I lifted the racks out for clearance. with a small screwdriver, I flexed the flat springs holding the whole tube assembly. It came right out. Using the screwdriver, I popped the nozzle off, put the new one. I flexed the flat springs a little back into line to be able to hold the whole tube assembly, put the assembly back in, and pushed the spray arm onto the nozzle. Put racks in. done. There is a plastic "snapping" feature (Two plastic tabs that when pressed together can fit into the holes on the spray arm. Once in there, the tabs expands and keep the spray arm in place) that comes out of the top onto which the spray arm is attached to. That plastic piece broke and the spray arm fell off. It wasn't clear how the snapping feature was attached to the top of the dishwasher at first. I was looking for a replacement for it and could not find it on any of the assembly diagram... Read more

I initially just removed the spray arm and top cover of pump assembly inside the bottom of the washer. Removed match sticks, broken glass bits, a small metal ball, broken plastic fork. Thought problem would be solved, but no,and was disappointed the sound remained after reassembly and a test wash cycle. That basically left the circulation pump. Parts arrived faster than promised. I unscrewed both holder screws. The new arm snapped right in the new holder. Then screwed the new arm holder assembly back in to the dishwasher.
