I watched the Appliance Parts Pros repair video and decided to remove the front panel to diagnose the problem. While the repair video is excellent, I could not remove the ice/water dispenser front panel with a putty knife. On my model, 106.56234400, there is no clip that can be released by sliding a putty knife up under the front panel. It was a classic horror story, but with a happy ending! I called a classic, "regular" repair company that I obtained on-line. My Whirlpool was 2 months out of warranty, so the repairman charged a trip-fee of $95 that would be subtracted from the cost of my repair. A bit of research on the internet indicated the most likely problem was with the defrost system. I found the service manual for the refrigerator and was able to determine that the defrost heater and thermostat passed the self test. The refrigerator would perform a forced defrost which resulted in a cold refrigerator. After about 6 months of use with our Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine it started to sound extremely loud in the spin cycle, we should have called Whirlpool at this point to have it looked at under warranty. Replaced both sets of door cams on my Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. The most important thing to know is that you DO NOT have to remove the doors from the refrigerator to replace BOTH sets of cams. You just have to remove the lower grill which is a snap fit (I also turned off the water and unplugged the unit). The 20 year old unit still serves us well, looks good and has been kept in good repair. The condenser fan had stopped so I removed, cleaned and oiled that motor. The decision was made to make an upgrade to the evaporator motor and control units so that the appliance could reasonably be expected to have extended service life. Found the correct replacement in your easy to navigate parts lookup, ordered part, arrived sooner than I expected, Needed a nut driver to remove old part, unplugged harness, plugged new part in , retightened three screws and began making ice. The original pump was getting jammed intermittently, more and more often. I cleaned it out, but that didn't help the jamming. So I ordered a new pump. Have your new pump on hand and look at it to see how it attaches. The original pump, a different part number than the replacement, lasted about 7 years of almost everyday use, with multiple loads each day.
