• Leaking

Removed the old line and replaced with the new. This is the sixth time I've replaced the line. Yes you read that right, the sixth time. Lines fail about every 6-8 months so I can change one out now in about 10-15 minutes. Bought the refrigerator in Feb '09 and the line first failed in March 2012. Since then I've had failures in as little as 4 months to as much as 9 months. Frustrating to say the least, but I'm a whiz at changing out the line :-) Read more

Used the schematic provided to select the parts needing replacement and placed the order. Parts arrived and swapping new for old was simple. For the most part it was a matter of taking out the old and putting in the new. There were a few screws with wheels to replace but that was easy as well. Before purchase I searched several different sites and found all the parts needed. I compared prices of each item as well as shipping cost. Prices for each item were nearly identical between sites... This was easier then I made it. Originally took the actual ice maker out without removing the whole system from the door. There are 3 silver screws that do that hold the whole mechanism in place, as opposed to the 5 white screws that hold the ice maker in place. With the entire assembly out it was a matter of routing the ground wire, retaping the wires, and then the whole assembly went back into the door without a problem. Also, Alicia in the help department was able to locate an electrical diagram for my old freezer. This was essential for proper setup and her persistence in tracking down the diagram was top notch. Poped off plastics caseing inside the frigerator. Unscrewed 4 screws holding black fan inplace. Followed yellow wire to locate white sensor. Need to be careful not to break styrofoam, don't force it, it should seporate from plastic easy as long as the 4 screws are out. Swap it for the new one and button it back up. Top mounted freezer with bottom refrigerator. Kenmore Elite Shut off the power Remove all food stuff from freezer (placed in ice chest) then shelves. Removed the ice maker, (easy!) 3 screws and unplugged wires. 2 screws in the back panel. Pulled top forward - downward Unplugged wiring harness from back wall of freezer, removed ground wire from panel Pulled fan blade off. Door gasket was easy to remove and reinstall. Original gasket was penetrated while cleaning food stuff from folds in the seal below the frig doors. (Gasket is very fragile so don't try to expand the folds while cleaning. I used my finger and a paper towel but in hindsight should have used a Q-Tip. Also, when installing the new gasket you have to be sure the seam folds over the edge of the door and doesn't get caught underneath. Read more

This was one of the easiest appliance repairs that I have ever done. I simply moved the refrigerator out of the cubby hole in which it resides, turned off the water supply at the wall, unplugged the electric cord, loosened the water supply line at the valve (had a water absorbent rag and small plastic bowl to catch what drained from the line), place it in the bowl and moved it aside. My frig is a year and a half old, Frigidaire with french doors and freezer drawer. It has an upper ice maker for the door in the frig and a bottom ice maker in the freezer drawer. After noticing the flood, I shut off the water supply to the frig and cleaned up the mess.
