Called Appliance Parts--vented a bit to a very kind and patient female voice--she gave me the part numbers. After grumbling yet again, I submitted the order. Expensive, but easier and cheaper than buying a whole new refrigerator! The parts arrived the next morning! I was amazed, since I'd called in the afternoon. Put them in--all well! Used the schematic provided to select the parts needing replacement and placed the order. Parts arrived and swapping new for old was simple. For the most part it was a matter of taking out the old and putting in the new. There were a few screws with wheels to replace but that was easy as well. This was one of the easiest appliance repairs that I have ever done. I simply moved the refrigerator out of the cubby hole in which it resides, turned off the water supply at the wall, unplugged the electric cord, loosened the water supply line at the valve (had a water absorbent rag and small plastic bowl to catch what drained from the line), place it in the bowl and moved it aside. This was easier then I made it. Originally took the actual ice maker out without removing the whole system from the door. There are 3 silver screws that do that hold the whole mechanism in place, as opposed to the 5 white screws that hold the ice maker in place. With the entire assembly out it was a matter of routing the ground wire, retaping the wires, and then the whole assembly went back into the door without a problem. Top mounted freezer with bottom refrigerator. Kenmore Elite Shut off the power Remove all food stuff from freezer (placed in ice chest) then shelves. Removed the ice maker, (easy!) 3 screws and unplugged wires. 2 screws in the back panel. Pulled top forward - downward Unplugged wiring harness from back wall of freezer, removed ground wire from panel Pulled fan blade off. Removed back cover and installed new start device. Plugged in refridgerator and it runs like new. Read more

Ordered a new handle. Unscrewed two screws took the old handle off and put the new one on put the screws back in. It works great!! Read more

This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more
