I had previously disassemble the pump assembly to find what I at first thought was an oddly shaped spring, which it was. What I learned by researching the parts was that the spring's odd shape was a result of something having gotten caught in the pump and jamming the impeller. The ice dispenser chute door had not been sealing for years. The ice cubes on the lower portion of the ice bin would melt enough eventually to then freeze up into a big, amalgamated blob of ice due to ambient air coming up the chute. My discharge would not empty after a wash cycle and I always had gross gray water left in the bottom approx 3" deep? After doing the obvious things of checking the simp for garbage, and checking that the discharge hose wasn't blocked, I removed my discharge pump ( not too hard to do) and tested. I watched a video on how to change these. I had ordered one a month ago because one had failed. I had no trouble --less than 30 seconds -- to insert a new for the bad one.
