Refrigerator not cooling or freezer warming up? A failed evaporator fan motor stops cold air circulation. DIY repair takes about 1 hour with basic tools.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Intermittant noise from freezer side of side by side kitchen aid fridge/freezer complete freezer and refrigerator seemed to maintain temp   Geoffrey F. • Plantation , FL • June 27, 2017

Used U-Tube diagnostic clips to diagnose that most likely problem was a worn Evaporator Fan Motor which is located in the freezer back wall, located in the top third of the unit. I removed 6 hex head screws from the freezer's interior back panel that covers the evaporator coils. The cover is located in the lower 2/3s of the back wall. Removed all shelving. Also removed screws that held in shelf supports on one side of the freezer wall. I then removed the back panel. You may need to... Read more

Freezer cold but refrigerator warm? The evaporator fan motor circulates air for cooling. Easy DIY repair with video guidance—takes about 30 minutes.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The bottom freezer is working fine refrigerator is warm.   John Paul H. • Glen Burnie , MD • September 18, 2022

If the freezer is cold and the fridge is hot, logic would indicate that the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator is not working. Searched the ApplicancePartsPros.com website for a fan in the freezer compartment and found the video on how to replace one. Followed the steps in the video to get the freezer partially disassembled and found the whole back of the freezer frozen over. Plugged the refrigerator back in and verified that the fan was not working. Unplugged... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Evaporator fan stopped working   Robert M. • Metairie , LA • December 25, 2016

The fan has a very thin wire in it's coil, and when that wire breaks, you need a new fan. In a previous repair, i noticed that an ice build-up had dislodged the wiring on my fan and severed the coil winding. I was able to undo the winding a couple of turns and get it working again. But more recently, the fan stopped and there was no repairing it. So i ordered a new fan from AppliancePartsPros.com and it got here in very good time. The new fan was slightly different as the prongs seemed to be... Read more

My KitchenAid refrigerator was not cooling, but the freezer was working perfectly. The help section here listed three parts that could be defective–defrost thermostat, evaporator fan motor and blade, and air diffuser/damper control–so I replaced them all. The videos were EXCELLENT, and despite the difficulty I had squeezing my shoulders into the small freezer compartment, I installed the parts and my refrigerator is cooling perfectly! Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Bottom freezer froze up evap not working   Richard H. • Owasso , OK • October 14, 2019

The repair went well. Never made this type of repair before. Took me around 90 minutes to complete. The worst part was winging it on how to disassemble the bottom drawers. On my Kenmore Elite, it has three freezer compartment sliding trays. The other difficult part for me was removing the clipped in part on the back of the freezer panel. Without knowing what to do it was a little frustrating. after getting to the evaporator unit, removing built-up ice and replacing the unit was fairly easy. The... Read more

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore refrigerator models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice dispenser motor bad   Scott P. • Dacula , GA • March 27, 2021

I received my new part in about 3-4 days. Part was exact match for my existing motor. After watching the installation video on this website I was able to garner the rudimentary directions to replace the motor. The video did not match the exact fridge I had. My fridge did not have the access panel on the interior of the freezer. I had to remove the two screws at the water ice dispenser tray on the outside and slide that unit off the front. Before removing the motor, open the freezer and remove... Read more

The Motor Rotor is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. Situated within the transmission housing, this specialized metal component physically connects the drive motor to the outer brake housing that controls the drive shaft and wash basket movements during all cycles.

  • Cycles displaying mechanical faults or not advancing properly
  • Grinding sounds impeding smooth motor operations
  • Drive failure troubles identified through diagnostic codes

This Whirlpool replacement is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, and select other brands utilizing common Whirlpool motor designs.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Clicking or tat tat tat noise with no agitation or spin   Gerald T. • Aberdeen , NC • March 19, 2018

Unplugged power cord, shut off hot and cold water valves, and disconnected hot and cold water lines. I taped the lid closed and laid washer down on its front panel to access motor parts underneath. Removed center screw (allen wrench) and then removed large, round, plastic rotor (had to use some force with fingers behind it to get it off). I could see that the gear teeth inside the rotor had been partially stripped off ruining the rotor (and causing the noise). I then removed the clutch... Read more

After checking the suggested fixes and parts on Appliance Parts Pros, I ordered the defrost thermostat and evap motor for my refrigerator, a Kitchen Aid KSSC42QTS00. Installation was very easy, simply emptying the freezer and removing the access panel in the back bottom half. Upon getting everything open, I found out that the existing evap motor was working fine, so I didn't install that part. I did install the defrost thermometer, which was a 5-minute process.
