Cooktop Igniter

• Gas igniter glows, but will not light
• Little to no heat when baking
• Won't start

Troubleshot the oven by checking the broiler which worked good (same fuel valve). After reading the some tips about troubleshooting the Glow Ignitor I could see the broiler ignitor got white hot and the oven ignitor only got bright orange (orange to red causes intermittent ignition or mini explosions). Watched the how to video and it was good information. You should be observant about which openings in the back of the oven as to where the two wires are coming out of. My oven is over 12 years... Removed the bottom tin work in the oven and removed the burner tube. Tried to remove the igniter bracket but the screws were too tight for the Phillips head and couldn't get vice grips to clamp on the head, so I bent the bracket enough to remove and replace the igniter. Replaced ingniter. Unlike some of the repair videos I saw, I could do everything by removing the lower draw, and in fact access from the back of the stove was not an option on my Amana. Pulling the stove out and fussing around turned a likely ten minute job in to a twenty minute. Unit work great, now I just need to keep tabs on the broiler igniter, which may be on the way out as well. Read more

We replaced both front orifice holders. Very easy to bend and break. If it has a deep bend in it, It will slow down the gas flow to the burner. if you have a low gas flow your burner will burn low So check your small silver gas lines and if you smell gas check your lines Read more

This is a Montgomery Ward gas range made by Tappan. Parts are no longer offered for this appliance. So, I had to eyeball various ignitors to determine which one would work. Called a repairman and he told us we needed to change a bunch of parts and would cost over $400! Decided to do some research online and found suggestions to replace the spark igniter. Decided to give it a try. Took about 10min to replace and oven is now working perfectly, for a total of $30! Read more

The igniter was sparking, but the spark did not appear as bright as the other burners. Swapped the burner and lid since that is where contact is made. Did not help. Came to the conclusion it was a faulty igniter. I ordered parts, replaced the igniter and now the range burner works fine. Read more

Replaced both ignitors. Since I was working on the range I also overhauled the final 2 of the 6 burners on the stove top. Venturi tube and jet nuts were frozen and could not remove drip tray for cleaning and access to ignitor clip. Had to drill out Venturi tubes using a tapered bore bit. Used Dremmel with cutting wheel to remove jet nut. This range has been heavily used since new for 16 years. Works like new, again. Read more
