General Electric Tank Or Reservoir

Our refrigerator takes care of my wife and I, along with our children when they visit, and the grand kids. Over the years, it's seen its fair share of wear and tear. Thankfully, nothing major has happened that hasn't been able to be repaired right here in the home, and by me. I replaced the supply line to the fridge - no change in taste. I replaced the MWF manifold and tubes, the water inlet valve and the water storage line. That did it, good tasting water again! The ice still has a bad taste, so I'll replace the supply tube from the valve to the ice maker. Overall, replacing these parts was easy and the videos from Appliance Parts Pros helped. Read more

Had to remove all three food drawers and the back panel behind the drawers (4 screws). The water tank comes with the associated tubing which would typically require access to the back of the fridge to run the new lines. Instead I clipped the existing lines inside the fridge. Then I clipped the lines off the new tank so they would line up with the old lines. I then used a 5/16" OD compression coupling (Lowes or Home Depot) to connect the ends of the tubing together. Installing the tank went quickly. Removed the water filter from the upper compartment to stop water flow to the tank. Had to remove the two lower drawers (they tilt out of their sliding frames). There is a glass shelf that should be pulled out - it slides out via two notches in the front frame. The water tank is behind a white metal cover held by 4 screws. Keep track of all of the parts including the lip seals from the shelf. I used two Watts 5/15x5/16 couplers from Lowes for the connections.... Read more

Found water reservoir had frozen solid and had cracked (no idea yet why it froze). I had previously fixed a frozen drain from the cooler by wrapping 12 Ga bare copper wire around the heater element and routing into the drain hole and that was working and clear. So I ordered and replaced both water reservoir and water reservoir heater in case the heater was not working fully. Very Easy to fix by removing vegetable drawer and shelves. This part was easy to install by following the directions from other users here. As long as you get the right hoses connected in the right places, everything else was straight forward. Takes a few minutes for the tank to initially fill and pressurize and clear the air in the line and then you're on your way to clean fresh water! Read more
