Maybe 6 or 7 years ago I had a fridge conk out on me just before Christmas. I disassembled/reassembled the dryer according to the ApplianceParts Youtube video. With my limited electrical knowledge (just enough to be dangerous) I initially figured it was a problem with the heating unit, sensor(s), or the control board. Replaced ice maker unit. 4 screws to remove cover on inside door. 2 screws for ice maker. Three connectors: ice maker on/off switch, LED light, wiring harness connector. A second person assisted by bracing the door for me, but not necessary to get the job done. I also used some cellophane and tape to cover the door opening for the 5 minutes it took to replace the unit. I replaced the warped cover guide and the lint filter. Now it works perfect! Sears was going to charge $100 just to diagnose the well known problem, not including parts and labor. It only requires 4 screws(i used the old ones). Easy fix. Read more

Visually inspected bottom heating element and found that it had failed. There was a @2" gap of missing element and burned debris below the damaged area.
