Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I am an idiot don't be me   Tim M. • Yuma , AZ • January 13, 2020

I broke two of the elements in my GE Profile cooktop because I failed miserably at removing the glass top. It pays to do your research, kiddies. All it takes is a Number 10 Torx bit to remove 12 screws holding the glass to the body of the appliance, and it lifts straight up. I was replacing the glass because it broke during my home's construction. Anyway, you need a 1/4" nut driver to remove the mounting tabs on the bottom of the old element and transfer them to the new one. The whole swap out... Read more

Bake Element (Lower)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPW10163272

Restore consistent bottom heat in your oven with this bake element. When the original element burns out, the oven may not heat, preheat slowly, or bake unevenly—replacing it restores dependable baking performance and even results. What it does:

  • Supplies heat from the bottom of the oven during Bake cycles
  • Helps the oven reach and maintain the set temperature
  • Common symptoms of failure: little or no heat in Bake, slow preheating, uneven baking/browning
  • Visible signs can include blisters, cracks, or breaks in the element
What's included:
  • 1 bake element
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool before service
  • Remove mounting screws and carefully pull the element forward to access the wires
  • Transfer the two wires to the new element, keeping them from slipping back into the oven cavity
  • Reinstall mounting screws, restore power, and test Bake operation
Troubleshooting tip:
  • A healthy bake element typically shows continuity on a multimeter; an open reading indicates it has failed.

The problem was on the eight inch units, the rim of the drip pan touched the element. It was a simple matter of removing a small bit of the drip pan where the element enters. Aircraft snips and a little polishing with a Dremel tool, and all is well. Wife loves the new elements. Read more
