I could not find specific online instructions for this job. Here are some tips. 1. Unplug the washer. 2. Unscrew the dial on the broken timer. 3. Gently pry up the thin plastic place-indicator plate (the thing with the arrow under the dial) with two flathead screwdrivers. 4. Unscrew the two hex screws holding the old timer in place. 5. Based on an internet search, the likely problem seemed to be a bad timer-control switch because it would hum and click but not advance on a 17-year old washer. Repairman diagnosed the problem as a bad lid-switch-assembly and replaced it - problem solved. Now I need to return the Timer-Control. After looking for solutions online and watching some short videos, we decided to open the dishwasher up and try to fix it ourselves.
