Range Touch Pad

I first felt along each heating element (bake and broil) hoping to find a rough or blistered place on them. But they were both smooth with no irregular places. (replacing the elements would have been the easiest and cheapest repair. Pulled the back off the range (unplugged, of course) - checked wiring. There were no loose connections or burned wiring. Turned off the power. Pulled out the stove. Removed back of upper part of stove. Removed old control board. Took photos with phone to make sure I got wires back on correctly. Only 1 wire was difficult to remove and required gentle rocking with pliers. Put the overlay on the new board. Placed all the clips and wires back on the new board. Turned on power to test. The glue behind the keypad loosened and the keypad slowly began slipping down out of place over several months. Finally, because of the movement, it warped which resulted in one of the keys being stuck. That is what gave the F12 error code. The fix was easy. I removed the control panel and then peeled off the keypad. The keypad itself then has two layers (1), the flexible circuit panel, and (2) the outward facing display. My wife put the faceplate on the oven control while I accessed the display by pulling the oven out, unplugged it, and removed the rear cover. Only three nut head screws held the upper back panel. 4 nut screws hold the display onto the oven, they were easily removed. My wife took a couple photos of the rear wiring to ensure we plugged the new oven control in properly (there are a fair number of wires but they are color coded in most cases). I installed a new clock timer and overlay the job took only a few minutes and a very easy repair. Useful hint take a picture of your clock timer before you start to make sure all your wires are put back in the right order . Charles B Lafayette Tn Read more

This fix went great, no problems, about 15 min of work. Just a heads up: the distribution of the wires on the back of the replacement unit was pretty different from the original part (and the part photo on this website). But the wire tabs were labelled on it, so it only took a few minutes to get the wires lined up right. Works like new now! Read more

A very common problem with the GE oven is the dreaded F7 error code. I purchased the control board as well as the keypad and replaced both. The error code could have been either part but since I saw a lot of grease, I chose to change out both even though I isolated the problem to the keypad only. By resetting the error first by hitting the clock button on the keypad, turning off the power,disconnecting the keypad, then turning back on the power if the code doesn't come back it's the keypad. ... Cleaned out but this did not work..possible short. Checked online with your chat service and they confirmed the two possible parts I may need. Tried to replace the temperature probe first without testing with ohm meter; decided to take a chance. I then ordered the EOC timer/oven control. Now works great and also gained the seconds timer along with minute timer that was not stock with the first timer.
