Dishwasher Handle

Appeared to be two problems: the latch was worn and one of the pins that slid in a guide on the actuator located in the inner panel had broke off. Detergent lid spring and pin appeared to be OK but decided to replace since I was aready working on it. I ordered all the inner panel mechanism from the control arm to the latch actuator on the inner panel. The repair was successful as the detergent dispenser now opens during its cycle. Read more

Reviewed repair via youtube. Disconnected the dishwasher power and water. Removed dishwasher from under the cabinet. Removed and disassembled the door and then made the repair. The last step reinstalled the door and dishwasher. Read more

Tried bending the strike to get a firmer grip, but no luck. Replaced the door latch and strike. Washer is about ten years old. You can feel the new catch has a more positive engagement. When you replace the strike, be sure not to tilt it downward in front. It will go in the way but it will keep the door from closing. Not sure I needed to replace the strike but didn't want to risk more downtime. Read more

Discovered that the common cause of the problem was the latch in the door. Found a video online that showed the exact procedure for my model dishwasher. Our 7 y/o dishwasher wouldn't close and therefore we couldn't get it to run. I called several service places who charged $75-$90 diagnostic plus parts & labor, and they were not able to get here for at least a week. I knew it was going to run at least $200. Had to remove the screws that hold the dish washer to the counter top by knocking them out of the counter top. After seeing how the door handle worked I will not have to do again as all you have to do to open is stick a long screw driver up inside and push the chip and it opens. Ordered handle installed it now everything works fine. $29.00 for little plastic handle seems quiet rediculous but Kitchenaid and parts direct where $39.00 so I guess I got a bargain. Removed control panel where latch and handle are located beneath. Removed front cover plate of dishwasher to reach last handle screw and removed a wire connector to the latch. Then replaced parts in reverse order of disassembly. Read more

I have a Kenmore dishwasher and this is the second time doing this repair. The dishwasher door wouldn’t click in place when closed and the lights on the control panel wouldn’t turn on. My kids like to push on the handle to get onto the counter causing the latch assembly piece to break after awhile. It’s a simple fix with the hardest part being getting the front panel lined back up to put back on. I ended up not needing the strike piece but got it just in case it had been bent. Read more

One end cap was broken but I ordered 2 since the shipping was the same price. I replaced both by removing the Tork screws on both sides of the door panel (one side at a time). There was a bolt on the inside panel of the door that secured the end cap. I replaced the end cap and tightened the bolt moderately so as to not crack the plastic end cap. Total job was 30 mins replacing both end caps and including figuring out how to get to them. NOTE - be careful to not open the door panel sections... Read more
