General Electric Refrigerator Parts

I did not have the model number of the refrigerator! I looked everywhere, but I think it had been ripped off. This left me with the difficult task of trying to look through pictures of dairy doors and freezer shelves, armed with only the approximate dimensions of the pieces. I ordered 2 new gaskets, one for the freezer and another for the refrigerator. These arrived within a few days. I soaked both in the bathtub filled with hot water for about 20 minutes. My grandson installed both gaskets without any trouble. I duck taped on the freezer door to allow it to 'seep' with the cold air inside the freezer unit as I was told this would help make a better seal. I waited 48 hours before removing the tape and opening the door. So far, I'm very happy with my 'new'... Read more

I replaced the solenoid, door, spring and bucket. The bucket cracked from ice freezing inside it. Ice froze inside the bucket because the solenoid stopped pulling the door closed which allowed hot humid air into the freezer. While I was in there I replaced the dispenser door, spring and crank because they are cheap and the old ones were moldy. The mold is most likely from the door not closing and causing condensation on the parts as well. Read more

Had some confusion of what part I needed, needed the one with the motor and thermostat. Fortunately, I've been fixing wiring for many years, I simply cut the new motor out of the harness, and used that nice glue-inside-heat-shrink tubing to seal the soldered 'Western Union' style splices. New light socket and lamps fit fine, worked fine, new motor is fine, problem resolved. Fitting the glass into the frame was a bit challenging at first. Especially with no directions. Originally, the glass seemed to be a tad bit too big to fit into the frame, but we eventually were able to make it work. I still believe it should have been a tiny bit smaller for an easy fit. Read more

Removed cheese/butter keeper shelf from refrig door then removed broken and replaced broken cover. Removed fresh food keeper tray & shelf from refrig and replaced glass top. Read more

Inspected the Defrost timer and it seamed to be functioning properly. Ohm ed out the defrost heater element and it also measured out correctly (mine 34 ohms). Bypassed the heater element and found that the unit would run without tripping breaker during defrost cycle. At this point i inspected the wiring to the heater and checked continuity of the wire and continuity to ground, No issues found. There's what needed to be done and there was what was done. Either way it starts with the door stop bracket shearing off and needing to be replaced. Actual work wise. 1) Remove the shelves 2) Remove the 5/16th hex heads at the top 3) Lift the door up and lay it down 4) torx to get the bracket off and the new one on 5) Reverse process Time it should have taken: 30 minutes What actually happened: Watched the video for the wrong model. Replaced upper and lower thimble's, lever arm, cam closure. Door stop was not the problem, but ordered it and replaced it too. The door of course has to come off, remove the top hinge, and lift it away. Lubricated moving parts with silicone spray. Be sure and put the door back in the open position, so the lever arm and cam closure can properly interact, then close the door. Remove the plastic grate at the bottom to get at the lever arm.
