Having never fixed a fridge before, I did a little research. The unit was not old & the cooling system was operating. As a homeowner, I love that I can just type my model number into Appliance Parts Pros website and find a listing/diagram of the entire unit. So when my dispenser on my dishwasher broke, I just ordered a new one. I use You Tube to watch videos on the specific repair, and then VOILA! Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. Initially disassembled the bottom freezer compartment so I could get to the evaporator coils; they were completely frozen in block of ice, restricting air flow to the fridge above. I bumped into my KitchenAid dishwasher and the upper rack adjuster cracked. There was already a crack on the notch of the housing where the handle (lever) sits. Order parts and replace. When removing attachments, do them one at a time and install them on new rack as you go. Watch for the small release tabs on the attachments (baskets, rollers and tine holders), "gently" put pressure to release; remember these units have been in hot water and they are brittle. Read more

Steam vent baffle had failed and was not fully closing. Bottom seal also crusted with hard water deposits, and mildew on door insulation from leak. Replaced vent assembly, new insulation after cleanup, new bottom seal after cleanup. Read more
