Damper Assembly
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 241600906

The Damper Assembly is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators, crucial for regulating the airflow between the refrigerator and freezer compartments. This part plays a pivotal role in maintaining the desired temperature in your refrigerator, ensuring your food remains fresh and safe for consumption. Note: Damper Control w/ one switch, if you need a Damper Control with two switches, order part# AP3772850.

Causes of a bad Refrigerator Damper Assembly can involve normal wear of internal mechanisms responsible for damper rotation. Mineral accumulation on electronic sensors may hinder proper damper response.

Symptoms of a bad Damper Assembly include:

  • Temperature fluctuations between fridge and freezer sections
  • Condensation or frosting around cooling coils and duct intakes
  • Energy inefficiency and higher utility costs over time
  • Strange noises emittng from behind refrigerator exterior panels

This genuine OEM Frigidaire is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, and select Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Freezer was cold but refrigerator was warm   John H. • Chehalis , WA • July 13, 2015

This issue was with a refrigerator that we acquired with a house we bought. The freezer was cold, making ice well, overall doing great. The refrigerator was not cold however. I had this issue with our own refrigerator in the past, and it was related to the defrost fan not working and the coils freezing up. However this refrigerator's coils had no ice buildup. Doing some searching on the internet I was able to narrow it down to the damper between the freezer and refrigerator not opening... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Clicking every 5 seconds / uneven refrigerator temperature   Ross E. • Rochester Hills , MI • December 01, 2014

Removed & replaced baffle. Make sure you have a 1/4" nut driver. You can't see the nut that is at a 90 degree angle from the front of the refrigerator. There is a second nut hidden behind the air filter at the back of the compartment as well. Once you remove these two, the plastic housing comes off & the assembly (which is mostly made of Styrofoam) is easily replaced. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Fresh food section freezing   Thomas C. • Mckinney , TX • June 06, 2015

It started with clicking sounds for about 10 seconds at random times throughout the day. eventually the clicking sounds were gone and the temperature in the fresh food section was dropping below freezing. Turns out that one of the 3 damper doors was stuck open. My fridge has a damper door in the top left and 2 doors in the bottom left. One of the bottom doors was dedicated to the quick chill drawer which hadn't worked in some time. but since the quick chill door was stuck closed it did not... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Fridge wasn't cool enough food was freezing!   Matt G. • Monroe , WA • August 30, 2020

I have used AP Pros.com in the past. They've always been helpful. I used the live chat feature to describe the symptoms (freezer was fine, fridge was too cold, water filter/line frozen) and she made recommendations and showed me exploded view PDF's of the location of each part. I ordered the Damper Assembly (expensive) and Temp Sensor (not expensive) and installed both parts in about 30 mins after watching the instructional videos on the website. Violia! Worked like a charm. It's always a... Read more

Microwave Vent Damper
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304509486

This is a vent damper door used in the microwave's exhaust system. It opens to allow steam and cooking fumes to vent outside and closes to prevent outside air from flowing back in. Replace this part if the damper is stuck open or closed, if you hear rattling from the vent area, or if you notice poor ventilation or backdrafts during cooking.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Re routing microwave exhaust   Karissa B. • Brookhaven , GA • October 19, 2015

We bought a house with an over-the-range microwave, which just recirculated air into our house--not effective for smoky meals! We removed the microwave and cut a hole to send the exhaust out the back of the microwave (and out of our house), but realized we were missing this damper and frame that go on the back of the microwave for rear exhaust. The parts fit perfectly and now we can enjoy a smoke-free kitchen! Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Convert microwave from recycling vent to an external vent system   Gaspar D. • Summerfield , NC • December 31, 2015

We followed the manufacturer's instructions about re-positioning the fan motor and installing the vent damper (easy). We constructed a duct system from the microwave to the outside of the house (challenging). We used 3.25" x 10" metal duct to start the system through the wall behind the microwave, where we added framing to reinforce a cut stud. We ran the duct up a closet wall and through its ceiling into the attic. We had to make an offset duct piece from 3.25" x 10" metal duct to clear a... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I recently changed our above the range microwave to vent outside but when there are strong winds against the outlet cool air came in this is an extra block against air intrusion   James D. • Downingtown , PA • October 31, 2015

This damper was added to the outside vent duct line as an additional block against outside air intrusion. Under spousal orders I had just changed the microwave vent to the outside (the proper way to go, but much more difficult to accomplish) but then there was some "flowback" when the wind was pressing against the back of the house (westward facing), and I was ordered to reduce this flow before the winter arrived in full force. There is this same damper on the microwave unit itself, but I... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The temperature in the freezer was 6 and the temperature in the refrigerator would go to 48 the evap coil wasn't defrosting   Dennis W. • Elkhart , WI • June 29, 2019

After checking the defrost heater to confirm it was ok. I replaced the main electronic board. That wasn't it. After 1 1/2 weeks, it frosted up again. I called and talked to a tech person at APP and then ordered the air tower, defroster thermostat, and temp sensor. I installed them all and the frig works great. I know replacing all those parts at once didn't confirm which one failed, but I just wanted it fixed. The cost was less than having a service call. The parts arrived the day after... Read more

Diffuser (Refrigerator Air Damper)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W10899382

This diffuser—often called the refrigerator air damper—controls how much cold air flows from the freezer into the fresh food compartment. Replacing a worn diffuser helps restore even cooling and more stable temperatures throughout the refrigerator. What it does:

  • Opens and closes to regulate airflow from the freezer to the refrigerator
  • Helps maintain set temperatures and reduce warm spots or over-cooling
  • Common symptoms: fresh food too warm while freezer is OK, food freezing on shelves, weak airflow from upper vents, or clicking/buzzing from the diffuser area
  • Helps address frost or condensation near the diffuser outlet
What's included:
  • 1 diffuser
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Access from the refrigerator section; remove shelves/air duct covers as needed
  • Note wiring and orientation; remove mounting screws/clips and transfer any seals/insulation if present
  • After installation, restore power and allow up to 24 hours for temperatures to stabilize
