Dishwasher Touch Pad

Problem was diagnosed as faulty control panel. I ordered a new control panel from Appliance Parts Pros and installed it on the dishwasher. Read more

Ordered the part on line, rec. in record time, open the front panel of the dishwasher, unplugged the cable, replaced with new one by plugging into the connector. Help was needed only to hold the panels for lining up the screw hols, and secure couple screws on either side. Max. 15 minutes, from the time of opening the package. The upper rack on the dishwasher fell apart as in the 3 of 4 wheels kept falling off the axle. This is the second time I am replacing these wheels in 12 years. This replacement assembly is metal with rivets holding on the wheels as opposed to the plastic tabs which became brittle and fell off which allowed the wheels to then fall off. Took the 6 hex screws out and simply unplugged a couple of wires off the control panel. Called appliance parts pros and gave them the part number that was embossed on part. They had it in stock and shipped it. I received it within 3 days. Plug the wires back into the part and replaced the 6 screws. 10 minutes top to repair. Highly recommend you doing this. My Maytag dishwasher model # MDB7749AWM2 has a diagnosis routine where you push 'normal wash' then 'heated dry' three times in quick succession. This made the machine cycle through all the functions. I replaced the panel, for the third time in about 7 years. its a bit sad that A) kenmore/whirlpool cannot make a control panel that can last longer than 5 years of normal household use, and B) that the panel costs $135 . so that means that the $800 kenmore sits at $1070 in price, due to the two repairs that i have made over the last seven years. this control panel is about 10 or 12 switches, with a 15 pin ribbon cable that connects to the control module. i would rate this as about a $50... I searched online for problems with that model. I found the appliance parts pros web site. It was the control board or the control panel. I ordered the control board. In 2 days it arrived and I put it in. That did not fix the problem. I then ordered the control panel. Again in 2 days it arrived and I installed it. That fixed it. Based on feedback found on the internet, I knew it was either the control panel or control board. Ordered both and it turns out I only needed to replace the control panel. Really easy fix. Turned off the power, unscrewed the top 6 screws to open up the control panel. Removed the cover and disconnected the ribbon cable.
