My dishwasher was leaking and I called to have a certified technician come to diagnose the problem. I removed the kick panel from the bottom of the machine. He turned it on and we saw that water was leaking from the bottom. He said I needed a Sump kit but it wasn't in stock. The cost was $170 plus tax and labor cost was another $140. I've opened sump housing to check for clogging but it was clean. When I removed check valve to inspect it I've found out that the round part of the valve was missing so I figured it might've blocked the water exit at drain hose or something like that. So I pulled the dishwasher out to get a full access to drain hose connector and the pump. Replacing the inlet valve solved the problem. The old valve was somehow clogged with white sediment. I probably could have taken it off and cleaned it out if I'd known, but replacing the valve was much easier. Took about half an hour to repair. Video walk through was extremely helpful. Just replaced the things. Had to reuse old tine rows, rollers, the spray arm, etc., i.e. I removed 'em from the old racks and put on the new ones, but that was piece of cake. Also, I cleaned the food grinder and the discharge valve compartment (thank you very ???? ???? much, Internet), so spray arms around the top rack get enough water pressure now. This was a Maytag DE312 actually a Whirlpool labeled as Maytag) and is 27 years old. Replaced motor, drive belt and drum rollers. One tricky part was the motor because the new motor comes with integral starter and it was necessary to cut off existing female spade connectors on some wires and crimp on new connectors. Ordered Impeller and Shaft Seal Kit which came overnight. Easy to put in after watching the video. While installing I found that Inlet Sump was ripped and ordered the part which came overnight. Trickier to install but thought it went well. Even though Shaft Seal probably was not the problem it did need replacing.
