Dryer won't start but has power and timer works? This belt switch kit stops the dryer when the belt breaks. Moderate DIY repair, 45-60 minutes.
Every time I tried to start our dryer, the "Sensing Light" came on, I heard a little "click," and the dryer would not start. According to the very helpful Appliance Parts Pros. videos, I was able to dismantle, diagnose a few components, and discover the broken part. In this case, it was a Broken Belt Switch. I ordered the part, we went on vacation for a week, and when we returned home the part was at our residence. The next day, I installed the part and all is good now. I am nearly 70 years... Read more
This internal-bias thermostat regulates dryer drum temperature by cycling the heat on and off, helping maintain consistent drying performance and protect against overheating.
Cleaned exhaust duct, but only from the dryer/laundry room side. Replaced thermal fuse. Unit worked for about two loads and thermal fuse blew again. This time I cleaned the exhaust vent on the roof of my 2-story house. It was found to be partially obstructed and I was able to remove a significant amount of lint from it. Also, I researched the problem and followed someone's advice to replace the cycling thermostat together with the thermal fuse if the thermal fuse blows. So far it has been... Read more
Washer motor won't start or stops mid-cycle? This motor start capacitor stores electrical energy to start your washer motor. Moderate DIY repair.
I found your site which was most helpful. I saw on your forum, that others had replaced a motor & capacitor with + results. I was willing to spend what I thought was a reasonable amount & your guarantee was the clincher. I knew that if I called the appliance store where we had purchased the washer in 1998, it would be very expensive & even more important, it would take many days as they would have to order the part & then schedule a service call. I installed the motor & capacitor & was... Read more

Sump hose connects the washer tub to the drain pump. Replace if cracked, leaking, deteriorated, or has holes causing water leaks during wash cycles.
I changed the pump and also discovered the coin trap was wearing thin because it was rubbing against the sheet metal. So I replaced that as well. It took about 15 minutes to remove the coin trap and pump and about 20 minutes to install. The shipping was amazingly fast. I received the parts the next morning. I'm talking I ordered the parts before noon, chose the "fast shipping" option and received parts the next morning around 8:30 AM. Read more

Dryer won't heat? A failed thermal limiter opens the heating circuit when temperatures exceed safe limits. Simple DIY fix restores heat in 15-30 minutes.

Concrete balance weight mounts to washer outer tub to stabilize drum during spin. Replace if cracked, broken, or missing to restore proper vibration control.
My problem was a broken spider. I followed your excellent video, but have some additional input that should be incorporated in a new video showing the required upgrade procedures and parts required to repair an early model with damaged front tub half using currently available parts. Don't expect everything to go as easy as the video. 1) Used 4lb. brass hammer to drive shaft from bearings. 2) Torqued spider bolts to 20ft lbs. with thread locking compound. 3) attached rubber seal to front tub... Drive belt connects the motor to the drum for wash and spin cycles. Replace if stretched, frayed, cracked, or causing squealing noise. Verify fit.
The hardest part of this repair was determining where (controls, motor, belt or transmission) the problem was. I could see little pieces of rubber from the belt beneath the motor pulley, but the machine is 20 years old and some wear is to be expected. Since the belt was still intact and neither frayed or cracked and since I didn't know what the original dimensions were and since the machine was still able to agitate, I could only identify the belt as a possible source of the failure to...
