This was a tricky one to figure out. The Maytag Centennial MVWC400XW4 would fill and wash, then stop before spin cycle or would not complete the spin cycle. Started out as a replacement of the coupling between the motor and the basket transmission ( 2 of the 3 legs on the transmission side broken.. )... Bought a new pump, since I would have it off... or so I thought.. Metal output shaft into pump + years of moisture = pump rusted on. Put it all back together - runs fine... for a while.. The Carbon brush, drum motor is an OEM part for Bosch washing machines. These carbon brushes are responsible for transferring electrical current from the commutator on the motor to power the rotary movement inside the washing machine drum. Two come per package.
Symptoms of a bad carbon brush, or drum motor can include:
Causes of a bad part include normal wear and tear over extended use. As the brushes continuously contact the commutator, friction can cause them to wear down over time.

The drum was hesitating and then not turning at all with an error code. Wife also smelled "something burning", which of course is never a good sign.
