I had never worked on a washing machine before but after watching the online videos I felt like I could do the repair. I was almost positive it was the Mode Shifter and Shaft Assembly that was bad. The part is so new no video so I went onto a similar part and watched video that got me about 80%. Then, called and customer service sent me a service Manual but this still was not specific so I broke the old to get it out and in the process figured out how to do it correctly. 18 year old Maytag Atlantis top load washer had a load knocking and rattle sound with excessive vibration when the tub was spinning, but not when it was agitating. They was no water leaking. I took the front panel off and carefully listened while I ran a cycle and the loud sound sounded like it was coming from the drain pump. I found a video, by another parts vendor, that showed in detail how to dismantle and repair the washer. I wouldn't have known how to even get to the problem without that repair video. Dismantling the washer was easy once I knew how, but would have been like a (litteral) Chinese puzzle without the video. The lid shut-off switch is located behind the lid How About That. I order the plastic ball the hold the lid in place plus the lid shut off switch. I watched the video that AppliancePartsPros.com has on how to replace the lid and the plastic balls. I removed the lid to get to the two philips head screws to remove that part of the shut-off switch. I took the new switch out of the package and compared it to the old switch. I followed the very well made repair video for this particular part. The total time it took for the repair was under 20 minutes. But I have a suggestion for the repair video and that is to emphasize that when reinstalling boot. Have the tachnician point out that there are drain holes in the boot that need to be situated and reattached toward the bottom of the washer chassis. I ordered a new pump on this website. They provided me with written directions as well as a video to follow along with on how to change the pump. As always it wasn't as easy as the video, but that was the mechanic no the tool! Great job on the service. Will order parts from here again. Read more
