Only the lower element was burned out, but I opted to replace both. Ordered from AppliancePartsPros and received them very quickly! A few screws, unplug and plug in the new elements, replaced the screws, and DONE! This has to be one of the easiest repairs a homeowner can do. I first tried to purchase the part directly from GE but they were not helpful at all. Remembering that I had purchased a transmission and other parts from appliance parts pros for my old Maytag washer before, I searched their easy-to-use parts catalog and there it was!!!! The instructions that came with the replacement smaller surface heating element provided no help about how to open the top of the range, so I checked the internet. Little procrastination paid off. With only 50% capability I knew it is time to call the appliancepartspros. They shipped me parts within 3 days. It was practical to fix both at the time. All I needed was to disconnect power at range breaker box, grab a screwdriver to lift top open, a 16 inch or so piece of old 2×4 wood to keep the top top of stove lifted, so I could access heating elements from underneath. Following the instructions that I received through the helpful research of the APP staff, I disconnected the power, disassembled the back of the oven, and accessed the hidden element. This involved bending parts of the sheet metal and cutting the insulation, so I was very apprehensive about doing this. The delivery of the element was superfast, less than 24 hrs. Unplug the Stove from the receptical! Took a phippips screwdriver and took out the 2 screws holding it, and tilted it upwards a bit and pulled the element out about 3 inches an unhooked the wires. Hooked the wires up to the new element and pushed it back into the holes and put the 2 screws back in and turned the stove on and that was all there was to that. Read more
