The most challenging part of this was determining what the problem was. At first I thought the clutch (or related parts) had worn out, but by chance, I pulled on the timer knob, and the machine started spinning. When I let it go, it stopped. So clearly the spinning part worked. Then I watched a few videos about repairing a bad timer and determined that it was the likely culprit. I ordered the part. It was very simple to replace. And it worked perfectly. Saved me hundreds either in... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You GE washing machine sporadically agigated during the wash cycle and sporadically spun during the spin/dry cycle. Occasionally it would work if I unplugged the machine and replugged it in.   Michael N. • Estero , FL • April 06, 2014

A service tech diagnosed the problem as the control board. He ruled out other potential problems. Estimated it would cost close to $300 to fix above the $90 service charge. I figured that I could do it myself and ordered the control board, opened up the back, removed the original board and installed the new one. Took about an hour. Washing machine is working again. Original service call cost and part totaled less than $200. I'm happy. Hope that the machine functions for many more years. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You E53 error code   Susan R. • Beverly Hills , FL • March 03, 2017

After taking the top off the washer I found the Tech Data Sheet ( for repair person ) The E53 code was listed as Low Voltage to the motor board and referred me to test #15.
