I just wanted to put my experience here for all to see. I have a Maytag Neptune, MAH5500BWW, one of the original ones. I bought it back in 2002 and it has done many many loads of wash faithfully. So when the bearings started to get loud I thought it best to replace them, the seal kit and the belt. I did my research as best I could and decided to order the OEM parts from an appliance supplier. This was a fairly easy fix. The only problem I had was that the cover over the retaining nut was difficult to pull off. I changed to a larger pair of pliers and put a little more muscle to it and it popped right out. There was a little corrosion on the shaft that needed to scraped off for the new agitator to slide on easily but after that was gone the new part slid on and with some downward pressure it seated in. Replaced pump. All components are accessible from the front of the machine. You have to remove two screws in the back that hold on the top cover, then slide the cover back. This will allow access to the screws that hold on the control panel. Remove the control panel (unplug cable), then remove the spring/wire that holds on the door bellows to the front panel (removing and installing that is the most difficult part of the job) and carefully remove the bellows from the front panel. Ordered boot, nozzle, and inner spring for boot. Would have ordered outer, but the schematic for parts made it very difficult to navigate to locate parts...24 hr/next day air and I have a happy wife. The only thing that would have made it easier, was having a pair of Spring Expansion pliers, be careful not to pinch inner boot! Removed old bellow following procedures found on relevant Youtube videos. Reinstalling however was more of a challenge. Getting the rear seal of the new bellow on the washer housing was not as easy as the videos indicated. The key to that process is being sure the seal is well lubricated which is not quite apparent from the videos but is essential success. I took the cover off the transmission and determined that the only possible knocking had to be coming from the yoke. I ordered a new yoke and all the tub seals needed to put it back together like new. I also ordered a new drive pulley bearing because this bearing is always turning whenever the washer is used. 18 year old Maytag Atlantis top load washer had a load knocking and rattle sound with excessive vibration when the tub was spinning, but not when it was agitating. They was no water leaking.
