We have relatively hard water and I assumed that over the years those inlet valves were clogged with calcium deposits which in turn led to the high pitched squealing as water was added to the machine. Replaced inlet water valve. Simple repair. Removed control panel cover with few screws on back, removed valve with 4 screws, rubber tubing and clamps, disconnected electrical spade plugs.
