This is a 12-inch radiant surface heating element designed for use on a glass-top electric range or cooktop. It sits beneath the glass surface and radiates heat upward to cook food evenly on the corresponding burner zone. I replaced the large surface element first before examining the switch. In hindsight I probably only need to replace the large surface switch. Once I open the back of the control area of the stove the blacked switch and wire made in obvious that the trouble was in the connection and switch. Turns out these wall ovens have a pretty common problem, the baking element relay on the back of the control board solder joint fails.
