This is a gas burner valve used on a gas range or cooktop to control the flow of gas to a surface burner. Turning the corresponding knob opens or closes this valve to regulate flame height. Replace this valve if the burner won't ignite, the flame cannot be adjusted properly, you smell gas when the knob is in the off position, or the burner flame is uneven.
