I ordered a new solenoid and when it arrived, I installed it as follows: I cut the power to the refrigerator. I then pulled off the rubber boot (and it's plastic frame) that covers the water switch. Then I removed the bezel that covers the front of the ice maker controls by pulling it straight out. Then I removed the four screws found on the assembly under the bezel. After pulling the assembly forward a bit, I detached the multi-wire connector attached to it and put the assembly aside.... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The hot water was slow to fill on new ge washer in addition the warm water fill was cold   Bruce M. • Auxvasse , MO • June 15, 2015

The new GE washers come with a fill valve that has a 1/8" hole for the hot water inlet. This is probably for energy savings or something. So, I installed the older style GE fill valve on my new machine. Since the older style has larger inlet holes for both hot and cold water, it fixed my problem easily. NOTE: The outlet nipple on the new style GE fill valves are larger than the older style. Therefore, I had to make a coupling piece to attach the older style GE valve outlet nipple to the... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leaking door seal & excess water in detergent dispenser   Justin L. • Setauket , NY • January 03, 2017

I replaced the door seal for the leak. We had a small tear in the sealing surface that resulted in water dripping down the front of the machine (just below the door). I also replaced the detergent dispenser main box with diverter unit. This corrected excessive water being left inside the detergent dispenser at the end of each cycle. I highly recommend replacing the dispenser seal and gasket nozzle to be on the safe side. As these parts are subject to wear and fatigue over the life of the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My broiler would light but my oven would not   George H. • Spicewood , TX • January 10, 2015

I found I could "rap" on my broiler/oven control valve and the oven would light, so I ordered a new control valve. Installing valve was not difficult except for having to lay on the floor and work in a small space. After installation, the oven lit only ONE time...and the boiler/oven problem was unchanged....broiler would light, but not oven. (Both incandescent pilots would glow brightly, so I did not suspect the igniter/pilot.) A friend suggested I swap ignitors anyway...and indeed, the... Read more
