I found a video, by another parts vendor, that showed in detail how to dismantle and repair the washer. I wouldn't have known how to even get to the problem without that repair video. Dismantling the washer was easy once I knew how, but would have been like a (litteral) Chinese puzzle without the video. I had never worked on a washing machine before but after watching the online videos I felt like I could do the repair. I was almost positive it was the Mode Shifter and Shaft Assembly that was bad. I could hear the bearing making a grinding noise when I turned the tub by hand. Pulled the washer apart (using your videos as a refresher) and found that the plastic coupling between the motor and the transmission had failed. Searched for parts vendors and found your site. Ordered the coupling on-line and went back down to clean up the machine. In the cleaning process I found a damaged thrust washer for the upper agitator and broken drive dogs for that same agitator. It was a fast fix. its a Maytag Centennial Top load washer. it took me about 20mins to remove the pump and instal the new one.Most of the time was spent moving the washer. Read more

Ordered new transmission, nut, split washer and spanner wrench to do the install. very straight forward fix after watching the video. spanner wrench is a must or the correct large socket with an impact driver. it was corroded on pretty well let the liquid wrench work for a while and then beat it off. approximately 2 hours to do to fix, spent some time cleaning stuff up also though. washer was 12 years old and debated scrapping it and getting a new one but then it would not match the dryer. ... Popped off cap on middle of plate inside machine with flathead screwdriver, used a ratchet wrench and socket on bolt, took off plate. Replacement OEM plate was about $88. Got to house in 3 days. Less than an hour total time. Machine was 1 1/2 years old. It had stopped spinning, making noise. Read more

If you have an older model WM8000H_A you MUST pay attention to the type of door gasket (boot seal) that it uses. Every video I could find for replacing the seal on the WM8000HWA involved a different product than what was required for our specific washer. I wound up getting the wrong one by ordering it without help and had to exchange it - after I had the machine taken apart. Checked water lines and cleaned them out. Issue persisted. Researched options. Common response was to replace the water valve. Recommendation to replace gaskets, if needed. Replaced old water valve with new one (fairly easy process), and retested the machine. Worked fine, and has since. I kept the old unit, as the individual solenoids can be replaced should I need one in the future. Read more

I replaced both the solenoid (part of the inlet valve kit) and the pressure sensor. Online research suggested my intermittent issue with the cold water fill being just a trickle and then causing an error was likely due to one or both of those two parts failing. Since they are in the same spot it was suggested (and I agree) that it is best to replace both at the same time.
